Fly casting and talking fly casting bollox

Dot com or dot co.uk

I have been ferreting around trying to find out where I have been going wrong (see previous post). If you Google my name I am No1,  numero uno, the big cheese. Type in fly casting instructor and it’s an entirely different kettle of fish. If you use Google.com I get a mention on page 2, if you Google.co.uk you will be considerably older than you are now before you even get a hint I even exist. I think the problem is that WordPress, who host this blog, is a .com so Google assume I am one as well. I am missing out on the entire .co.uk market. The other problem is what  people type in to find an instructor ‘flycasting instructor’,’ flycasting lessons’. Is flycasting one word or two, should there be a dash between fly and casting? Buggered if I know, and if I don’t, I don’t suppose anyone looking for flycasting lessons does either.

Interesting stuff eh, there is more to this blogging than meets the eye.

If anyone out there has any suggestions then please let me have them

  1. hi Mike !

fly casting is two words but i don’t think that really matters. Google works that out on its own.

i just Googled ‘fly casting uk’ and several possibilities come up.
maybe changing the blog title to ‘Fly Casting UK – Michael Heritage’ ?
that would put you on the first page every time. i think 😉

  3. hey Mike,

another thing i was thinking about while i was in the supermarket… was by installing a statistics thing on your blog you get among others, a really good idea of what and how people get here. it shows Google searches and stuff.
taught me a lot on how to name articles as certain key words make your blog or articles pop up first.
check out the one at the bottom of my front page: Sitemeter
i’m not sure but you should be able to access the statistics it by clicking on it.

i just tried Googling UK fly casting instruction and after 5 pages and seeing my blog before yours, gave up…

might need to come up with something original for it to pop up on the first page.

  7. It’s only been a few hours Marc. If you even found it that’s an improvement already. Added sitemaster as well
